The Goat Herd

URG is the only refugee-run goat form in the United States, and we take pride in our humane and sustainable farming practices. The goats have 87 acres to roam and shelters to protect them from the snow, rain, and blistering sun. After a morning breakfast of oats, they spend most of the day grazing in the surrounding fields.

Most goats on the farm are Boers, a South African breed of meat goat. However, we purchase goats of all varieties to sell to customers while the herd grows to a self-sustaining size. Schedule a tour to meet the goats and see the farm for yourself! You may even spot a faithful llama out in the field protecting the herds from harm.

Kids, Kids, Kids

Each spring the farm welcomes new baby goats (called kids) to the farm. Just minutes after birth, kids are standing up and starting to nurse.

New moms and babies are moved into small pens where they receive careful attention before joining the rest of the herd. Soon they’ll be with the others—jumping, kicking, and playing king of the dirt mound!

We are a farm run by volunteers.

URG has no staff members, the majority of animal care is done by volunteers. We rely on volunteers to help with morning and evening feeds, farm upkeep, kidding season, and much more.
